Safety in Zagreb

Zagreb is, in general, a very safe city to visit. But just like in any other city, it’s always wise to keep alert so that you can enjoy your time here.

You’ll find Zagreb to be a warm and welcoming city with helpful locals, but when out in popular places, keep an eye on your belongings. It’s always a good idea to make sure you have your travel insurance organised.

In the unlikely event that your belongings are lost or stolen, or if you experience a crime, you can always contact the police by calling 192.

Visas, passports & driving licences

If you wish to visit Zagreb, you should inquire whether you will need a visa or not. If you do, make sure to file an application in due time.
Regardless if you need a visa or not you must carry a valid passport or ID card for the duration of their stay. EU citizens can enter Croatia with a valid ID card.

In Croatia, your foreign driving licence is valid for up to 90 days.

Credit Cards, What credit cards are accepted in Zagreb?

Credit Cards are widely accepted in Croatia. Mastercard, VISA, American Express and Diners are all accepted in most shops and restaurants.

Discover cards are represented by Diners in Croatia, so if you see a Diners logo you should be able to pay with Discover card.

Restaurants mostly accept credit cards, but we advise to ask the waiter prior to ordering.

You should have no problem finding ATMs/cash machines that accept all major credit cards. Do not forget your PIN code.

Zagreb Electricity, What electric plugs are used?

Zagreb has 230 volts, AC of 50 Hertz.

Electric appliances use continental-style two-pin plugs or Europlug. Power converters can be borrowed at hotels. Unfortunately, electrical supply stores do not usually sell adapters.

Smoking in Zagreb

Smoking is forbidden in public buildings and private businesses. Including restaurants, shops, public transport, entertainment venues and workplaces.

Smoking is allowed in most coffee shops, pubs and bars in places which do not serve food.
